Adding smoked ice to your drinks adds a new dimension of flavor. Jon Dudley gives you the basics on infusing your ice with smoke flavor using your Traeger. He loves using his smoked ice for bourbon on the rocks, but also recommends adding fresh herbs to your smoked ice for lemonade or even making smoked espresso and using it to keep your cold brew crisp.

How to Smoke Ice for a Cocktail:

  • Add water, fruit juice, or coffee, to a large and shallow baking sheet.
  • Set your Traeger grill temperature to Super Smoke and preheat with the lid closed for 10-15 minutes.
  • Place the baking sheet in the Traeger.
  • Smoke liquid for about an hour.
  • Move the liquid half way through (30 minutes).
  • Pour smoked liquid on ice cube trays and freeze

TIP: You can add fruit chunks, such as pineapple or pomegranate seeds, or herbs like rosemary or basil. Learn about infusing your cocktail with smoked herbs & spices.

Have a damn good drink on the rocks with a smoky twist. All you have to do is smoke water on the Traeger, then freeze it into ice cubes. Your whiskey glass will thank you.

Ingredients
main
2 Cupwater
1 1/2 OunceJameson Irish Whiskey or your whiskey of choice
    Steps
  • 1

When ready to cook, set the Traeger temperature to 180℉ and preheat with the lid closed for 15 minutes.

  • 2

Pour the water into an aluminum container. Place the container on the grill grates, close the lid, and smoke for 20 minutes.

  • 3

Pour the smoked water into an ice cube tray and freeze until solid, about 4 hours.

  • 4

To serve, place 3 smoked ice cubes in a glass and pour 1 1/2 ounces of whiskey over (the taste amplifies as the ice melts, but will soften the drink). Enjoy!
