By Traeger Kitchen
A Monte Cristo sandwich starts life as a simple ham, turkey, and cheese sandwich. Then it gets dipped in a batter of eggs and milk, fried in butter, and dusted with powdered sugar for a French-toast-meets-grilled-cheese explosion of flavor. The combo of sweet, salty, and savory flavors is hard to beat, and the Flatrock griddles it to golden brown perfection.

1 Teaspoon | kosher salt |
1/2 Teaspoon | freshly ground black pepper |
8 Slices | white bread |
4 Tablespoon | mayonnaise |
4 Tablespoon | yellow mustard |
8 Slices | Swiss cheese |
8 Slices | deli ham |
8 Slices | deli turkey |
4 Tablespoon | unsalted butter |
Powdered sugar, for serving |
1
In a wide, shallow bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
2
Spread the mayonnaise over 4 slices of the bread and the mustard over the other 4 slices. Place 1 slice of cheese over each mustard slice, then divide the ham and turkey among the mustard slices. Top with the remaining cheese, then place mayonnaise slice on top to create 4 sandwiches.
3
Preheat 2 adjacent zones of the flat top on medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes.
4
Add the butter to the hot cooktop and use a spatula to coat the entire hot area. One at a time, dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, flip to coat both sides, then place on the hot cooktop. Cook until golden brown on one side, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook until the other side is golden brown and the cheese has melted, another 2 to 3 minutes.
5
Transfer the sandwiches to serving plates, dust with powdered sugar, and serve. Enjoy!
